With the state primary just around the corner of the calendar – it’s on Sept. 3 – the town is urging voters to take advantage of the state’s Accessible Electronic Voting System. It allows voting access for people who can’t physically use a paper ballot because of blindness, vision impairment, mobility or dexterity issues, or any other physical disability that makes dealing with a ballot cumbersome or impossible.

The system – which is compatible with screen readers – ensures privacy and is completely secure. Through it, voters who otherwise would not be able to participate in the election process can submit a ballot electronically.

To use the secure voting portal in time for the primary, however, you (or someone you trust) must first submit a Vote by Mail application to the Plymouth town clerk’s office. by 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.

You’ll also need to submit a request for an accessible ballot through the state. As part of that process, you’’ also need to provide an email address.

According to the town’s website, “After your request is approved, the Plymouth Town Clerk Department will email you instructions for accessing the system. That email will include a unique Access PIN to use when logging in, and information about returning your completed ballot.”
