Annual Labor Day Parade (Scituate)

September 1 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Scituate Beach Association’s annual Labor Day parade is an end-of-summer bash that usually attracts hundreds of people. The parade’s origins are a bit fuzzy, but old-timers say it started shortly after World War I as the Horribles parade to mark the end of summer. It’s held every year on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend.
The parade is sponsored by the members of the Scituate Beach Association in Sandhills. The members spend the summer holding numerous events to raise money to support the parade. You’ll often hear a cry of “It’s for the Kids” as one after another, the SBA members overbid on items at the annual Auction.
Past parades have had participants dressed as sharks, Pilgrims, clowns and can-can girls. Floats are usually homemade, such as a giant bathtub with yellow duck curtains and a water spray. Everyone who walks in the parade receives a 50 cent piece and experience of being cheered for the entire parade route (about 1 mile long).
Awards are presented for best costumes, best decorated homes along the route and best floats. We’ll have a kids flotilla with special awards just for the participants.
After the parade the SBA coordinates kids races at the ballfield and a short road race for the older kids. Come join us for the best day of the summer!
