Edwin M. Kelly, 81, of Plymouth, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the devoted husband of Harriette (Kratzer) Kelly; loving father of Sean Kelly and his wife Erin of Hershey PA, and Timothy Kelly and his wife Carolyn of Raynham; and grandfather of Logan, Austin, Timmy, Brendan, and Violet.
Born in Cambridge on July 19, 1943, son of the late Mary F. (Goggin) Kelly and Edwin P. Kelly. Edwin grew up in Dorchester and was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School. He went on to become a police officer in Washington, D.C., before serving his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his return from service, Edwin met his wife and started his education in history at UMass Boston. It was at this point of his life that Edwin began his career with the United States Postal Service. He worked in Milton, Braintree, and retired from the Boston office.
Edwin enjoyed reading and especially writing. He was known for writing short stories and even completing an unpublished novel. He also loved movies, history, and all animals. Edwin was a proud lifetime member of the DAV.
A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth, on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. A Mass will take place the following day at St. Peter’s Church, Plymouth, at 11a.m., followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
