Alice R. (Fernandes) Centeio, age 94, of Carver, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home in Bourne. She was the devoted wife of the late David L. Centeio. Loving mother of Deborah Centeio-Weiss of Middleboro, Donald Centeio of Attleboro, and the late David Centeio Jr. and his wife Gail, and Alan Centeio and his wife Cheryl. Grandmother of 16, great grandmother of 19, and great great grandmother of two. Alice was the sister of Irene Gomes and her late husband Antonio of Plymouth, and the late May Gonsalves, Arthur Fernandes, Thomas Fernandes, Jr., and Richard Fernandes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Plymouth on June 2, 1929, daughter of the late Thomas and Sadie (Gouveia) Fernandes. Alice grew up in Plymouth and attended the Plymouth school system. She met the loved of her life, David, while attending a dance. The two worked at Taunton State Hospital while saving money for their wedding. They later moved to Carver to raise their family. They were married for 61 years before David’s passing in 2010. Alice loved shopping, entertaining, and trips to Florida, and Foxwoods.
A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth, on Wednesday, March 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A service will take place in the funeral home the following day at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Plymouth.
