Anthony James (Jim) Stanne Jr., 71, owner of Stanne Construction Inc., and an active community volunteer and philanthropist, died at his home in Plymouth on Feb. 17.
Born on March 16, 1953, he was the third of seven children of Anthony (Tony) James Stanne and Catherine Alice (née Grealis), both predeceased.
On June 8, 1974, Jim married Carolyn (Lynn) Sessions (née Bragg), his high school sweetheart from Amherst Regional High School.
Jim attended the University of New Hampshire and Keene State, obtaining an associate’s degree in forestry and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial arts education. Prior to and during those years, he was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, making Eagle Scout, and serving the organization for several summers at Camp Workoeman in Connecticut and Hidden Valley Scout Reservation in New Hampshire.
A job teaching Woodshop at Silver Lake Regional High School brought Jim and Lynn East, to Whitman, and then to Plymouth. Jim would proceed to build a home, family, and company, providing remodeling services from concept through completion. Specializing as a full-service contractor and cabinetmaker for over 35 years, Jim’s projects can be found across Southeastern Massachusetts and the Upper Cape. A home to him was a statement in New England aesthetic, and a job well done was a source of pride.
Jim’s community included so many. From his talented employees whose dedicated work continues the company’s tradition of excellence; to the Old Colony Club, of which he served as president; to Christ Church Plymouth, where he was a fixture of the choir, lay leadership, and Eucharistic ministry. He also served on the board of Pilgrim Hall Museum and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Plymouth Philharmonic.
He was the father of Andrew, Timothy, and Katelyn; father-in-law to Katherine (née Bolen) and Jonatan Puerta Martin; and grandfather of Ryan, Caleb, Benjamin, Maya, and Elliott.
He was the sibling of Stephen, Mary†, Kathryn, John, Margaret Britton (née Stanne), and Janet Humbeck (née Stanne); brother-in-law to Barbara (née Bragg) and Sanford Johnson, Cara Lee, Elizabeth (née Bragg) and Theodore Newcomb, Martin Knight, Carl Britton, Jochen Humbeck, Judy Bragg and Michael Kalmbach, and John and Susan Bragg (née deRochemont).
He was family to so many more relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be from 4 to p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at Christ Church Plymouth, 149 Court St., Plymouth, MA, 02360. A memorial service will take place at the same location at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Griswold Scout Reservation Scouting of America New Hampshire, 1500 Bodwell Road Manchester, NH 03109, (or online here), and the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra.
