Bertrand Gerard Hinderscheid Sr., of Plymouth, died peacefully on Oct. 22 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Vivian Felicity (Towne) Hinderscheid.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Bertrand B. and Irene A. (Davis) Hinderscheid. Bertrand was educated at Holy Trinity Elementary School in Roxbury and attended Jamaica Plain High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having honorably served his country in the US Navy from 1957 until 1962 Bertrand was a longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union.
Bert was a longtime resident of Plymouth and was one of the owners of the Lobster Hut restaurant. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in North Plymouth where he taught CCD and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, as well as being involved in other church activities. He was also a member of American Legion Post #40 Plymouth, the Cold Spring Club, and the Seaside Club. He enjoyed boating and playing golf.
Besides his loving wife, Vivian, he is survived by his son, Charles F. Hinderscheid, and his fiancé Sharon Fuller of Taunton. He was predeceased by his son, Bertrand G. Hinderscheid Jr., and his daughter, the late Kathleen M. Church.
He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer Hinderscheid-Bakas and her husband, George, Kimberly Hinderscheid, Steven Anderson, Daniel Anderson and his wife, Elaine. He is also survived by Brett Fuller and his wife, Victoria, and Marci Fuller. Bertrand also leaves several great grandchildren.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral home 373 Court St., Plymouth, will be held on Sunday Oct. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church 313 Court St., Plymouth. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial donations in his name may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA, 02360.
