2024 Speaker Series – The Free Black Community of Parting Ways (Plymouth)

August 1 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free African Americans in Plymouth County formed an independent community known as Parting Ways in the years following the Revolutionary War. The community was the subject of archaeological excavations in 1975 to 1978 and 1989. Professional archeologist Karen Hutchins-Kein shares data from digs and other sources that show how these residents established an independent community while facing discrimination in the newly formed United States.
