204th Annual Forefathers Day Dinner (Plymouth)
December 21, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Forefathers Day is one of Plymouth’s oldest traditions, dating back to before the American Revolution. The Pilgrim Society’s annual dinner has been held annually since 1820, when Plymouth’s 200th anniversary inspired the organization’s establishment and mission to erect Pilgrim Hall Museum, now one of America’s oldest public museums. This year’s event is sponsored by Guided Living Senior Health Care, with additional support from Technology Sponsor Holtec Decommissioning International.
The featured speaker is Lydia Moland, professor of philosophy at Colby College, author of a powerful new biography, Lydia Maria Child: A Radical American Life. Famous for the classic New England poem “Over the River and Through the Wood,” Lydia Child was admired for children’s stories and self-help books until she shocked readers by publishing the first book-length argument against slavery in the United States in 1833— a book so radical in its commitment to abolition that friends abandoned her, patrons ostracized her, and her book sales plummeted.
The event also features a musical performance by Northern Lights, Plymouth North High School’s student a capella performance group, sponsored by Flexo Concepts.
Tickets are $100 for Pilgrim Society members and $125 for non-members. Tables of 10 are $950 each. Details and reservations available online Here.
