An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe (Plymouth)

October 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

During the height of the Victorian spiritualist movement, Plymouth had an unusual connection to Poe. Native Plymouthean Lizzie Doten became a national celebrity in the 1850s and 1860s, reciting poetry to large audiences across the country. She claimed that her poems were dictated to her from beyond the grave by the ghost of Edgar Allan Poe.
In the spirit of the season, the Antiquarian Society’s event will feature Poe’s work. Attendees will also “meet” Lizzie Doten and hear her stories of communing with the enigmatic Mr. Poe. The program lasts approximately 45 minutes and will begin every 15 minutes from 7 pm to 8:15 pm on October 10 and 11. Attendees should purchase tickets in advance Here. Tickets can also be purchased over the phone at 508-746-0012. This spooky program is not recommended for children under 13.
Tickets for the general public are $15 per person. The rate for Plymouth Antiquarian Society members is $10 per person. For more information, email info@plymouthantiquarian.org.
