WE AND THE LAND ARE ONE THING-Wampanoag Health Equity Symposium (Orleans)

This symposium delves into the truth that the health of Indigenous people – indeed all Human beings – is intimately interrelated to and dependent upon the health of the land, and what “the health of the land” really means. The program includes two panel discussions, a special Wampanoag lunch, and a _Film screening. The day will open and close with traditional hand drum songs. All of the speakers are from the Mashpee or Aquinnah Wampanoag tribes, and are knowledge keepers of foodways, culture or language.
PROGRAM:
10:30am – Doors open – Coffee, tea and snacks
11:00am – Introductions and opening drum
11:15am – THE BOUNTY OF THE LAND: Indigenous Food Sovereignty – Discussion of the true meaning of living with the land from historical, cultural and contemporary perspectives
12:30pm – Lunch – Delicious lunch featuring Wampanoag traditional foods, provided by Buddy and Reneé Pocknett’s Traditional Wampanoag Catering
1:30pm – The Health of the Land: Living In Right Relationship – Discussion on the interrelation of the health of humans, all life and the Land
3:30pm – Indigenous Teachings with the Elements- Four short films that portray Wampanoag perspective and relationship with the Land
3:45pm – Closing Drum
