World Migration Day – First Herring Brook Restoration (Hanover)
April 27 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Join NSRWA and project partners on a site visit along the Third Herring Brook to celebrate World Fish Migration Day. We will meet at NSRWA’s newest river herring counting site behind Hanover Crossing to learn more about the Third Herring Brook Restoration.
Between 2014 and 2022, NSRWA removed 3 dams and 2 weirs along the Third Herring Brook, which opened 5 miles of mainstem and 9.7 miles with tributaries and has led to the return of Eastern Native Brook Trout using the mainstem. This was an exciting project that would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of multiple partners. Come hear their experiences working on this project.
From there, we will move indoors to join local artists Sally Dean Mello and Cathy McCarthy in painting a large mural depicting the North River. This is a unique experience to see how the process of large-scale painting unfolds and to be a part of a collaborative art installation for the new “green” at Hanover Crossing.
