Your April 9 letter from Becca Bankhurst stated I am the sole director and officer of the nonprofit group Community Land & Water Coalition (CLWC). This is inaccurate. I am one of CLWC’s four directors and officers. Together we have over 150 years’ experience in Southeastern Massachusetts in conservation, law, organizing, municipal government, and Native American history and culture. We volunteer because we believe in CLWC’s mission: “to protect, preserve, and steward the land and water resources” because we are “losing them fast.”

CLWC stands out front with community members with integrity and transparency.

I co-founded CLWC in 2021 as the culmination of my life’s work as an advocate for the environment and people in Plymouth and beyond. Plymouth is my hometown and my family has been a vibrant part of the community for over 125 years.  CLWC continues this tradition by providing free legal, scientific, and organizing resources to communities from Plymouth to Bridgewater and Wareham. We educate about local land use laws and procedures so people can use their voice to advocate at zoning boards, select boards, planning boards and conservation commissions. Over 3,500 people find value in our work and are on our mailing list. Join them and us by clicking here.

Editor’s note: The Independent removed a letter from Becca Bankhurst from its website after questions were raised about the author’s identity and she did not provide further documentation to verify it. Her letter used an outdated filing to incorrectly state that Sheehan is the only officer of the Community Land & Water Coalition. The Independent regrets the error.
