I am pleased that the Independent reported on the ceasefire resolution table at Saturday’s Town Meeting and the pushback from some of the Town Meeting members against moderator [Steve] Triffiletti’s decisions to table the proposed resolution and to allow Plymouth for Palestine an info table at the meeting. We need journalism to report our civic processes and debates in our public sphere if we are to hold onto our democracy.
While Mr. Triffletti determined that proposed Article 31 was outside the scope of Town Meeting, he respected that citizens in Plymouth had something important to say about how our tax dollars are currently being spent. There was pushback, as the Independent article reported. A Town Meeting member called one of our members a “Nazi,” which indicates a need for historical context and current information. Should anyone be curious about Plymouth for Palestine, we stand out at the Rock every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. We welcome conversation.
Thank you, Plymouth Independent, for your much needed presence in our community.
