George P. Gavoni

George P. Gavoni, 84, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, at Bay Path in Duxbury. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Askins) Gavoni for 63 loving years.

George was the beloved father of Donna Franco and her husband Miguel, George Gavoni, Patricia Beane and her husband Steve, Christopher Gavoni and his wife Chrishelle, Maureen Kierstead and her husband Randy, and the late Bruce and John Glenn Santos. He was the cherished brother of Rita Banker, and the late Robert and Charles “Mickey” Gavoni.

A proud grandfather, George leaves behind Michael Fredericks and his wife Tammy, Heather Johnson and her husband Sean, Stephen Franco, Devin Gavoni and his wife Alaina, Jonathan Beane, CJ Gavoni, Nathan Kierstead and his wife Jacquelyn, Brendan Beane, Casey Holmes and her husband Jake, Joshua Kierstead, Ryan Beane, and the late Chad Michael Kierstead. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Taylor, Lucas, Landon, Liam, Elanor, and Colby.

Born in Plymouth on May 16, 1940, George was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Shea) Gavoni. He graduated with the Class of 1958 from Plymouth High School, where he was voted “Most Athletic” and later honored with induction into the Plymouth Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

Following high school, George proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He later dedicated his career to the Plymouth public schools system as a custodian, where he was respected and beloved by many.

Family was the center of George’s world. He had a remarkable sense of humor, a generous spirit, and a special nickname for everyone he loved. He was an enthusiastic supporter of all his grandchildren’s sporting events and was always there to cheer them on.

George will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate nurse practitioners, CNA’s and all the staff at Bay Path Rehabilitation Center in Duxbury for their exceptional care and support over the past few years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 25, at 12 p.m. at St. Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Plymouth. Burial at Vine Hills Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
