Artists know that getting their work in front of an audience is challenging. There are only so many shows, fewer galleries, and the competition for entry into both is tough. Besides, even though all your friends promised they’ll come to the opening, you just know only a handful will follow through.

We can’t solve the art access/audience dilemma, but it’s one of the reasons the Plymouth Independent features a virtual gallery of sorts called Your Art Here.  It’s our way of offering exposure to some of Plymouth’s many creative types. We don’t guarantee publication, but we’re pretty flexible. Your Art Here is a free and easy way to raise awareness about your art, whether it be painting, graphic illustration, anime, sculpture, photography, or any other medium that will translate into an online image.

To have your artwork considered for publication, send a high-quality jpeg file – not a pdf – to art@plymouthindependent.org. Please include your name, email, and a phone number. We encourage you to accompany your submission with a brief description of the image, or an explanation of how it came to be. Please, just one submission at a time.

A couple of pro tips:

  • Photograph your work against a neutral background if it’s a standalone piece such as a sculpture. That allows the viewer to focus on the art and not the toaster and dirty dishes on your kitchen counter.
  • If it’s a painting, try to photograph it without a frame. If that’s not possible, crop out the frame and do your best to avoid any light reflection.

We won’t allow “for sale” submissions, but you can opt to have your email or website address published if you are interested in selling a work.

We’re looking forward to seeing what you’ve been creating.
