Are you ready to get off the sidelines and become involved in how the town is run? If you’ve got the time and inclination, here are a couple of options, depending on your personal interests.

Open School Committee seat

With School Committee member Michelle Badger’s recent election as a state representative, her seat will be vacant effective Dec. 17. If you’re interested in taking Badger’s place on the seven-member committee until the next town election in May, the only technical qualification is that you’re a registered voter in Plymouth. (At that time, you would have the option to run for a full three-year seat.) Send a letter of interest and resume to: Plymouth School Committee, c/o Tricia Liskov, assistant to the superintendent of schools, 11 Lincoln St., Plymouth, MA, 02360. The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, Dec. 19.

You’ll also be expected to participation in a Plymouth School Committee Open Seat Candidate public forum scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6. The appointment will be made by the remaining six school board members and the Select Board.

If you’ve got questions about the process, send an email to Liskov at tliskov@plymouth.k12.ma.us.

Airport Community Advisory Committee vacancies

Plymouth Airport has been in the news this year. A planned runway extension met with resistance, and neighbors have complained about an increase in noise that has been difficult to explain. The advisory committee can’t make decisions, but it does serve as a kind of counsel to the Plymouth Airport Commission.

Currently, however, the advisory committee has a lot of vacancies to fill – 13, to be precise. It’s seeking eight members from Plymouth, four from Carver and one “non-voting representative from the airport users group.”

The advisory committee expects to meet once a month – in-person – for about an hour, in advance of airport commission meetings.

If you’re interested in joining, you can apply online here. If you’d rather submit your application by mail, send it to: Plymouth Town Hall, 26 Court St., Plymouth, MA, 02360.

The appointments will be made by the Select Board.
