John Richard Adams, 82, of Laurelwood in Plymouth, formerly of Plainville and Osterville, died on Saturday, Aug. 17, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the beloved husband of Linda E Adams and loving father of John M (Therese) Adams of Sagamore Beach, Bruce R (Nanci) Adams of Narragansett, RI, and Michelle (Peter) Buzzell of Plymouth.  He leaves behind his grandchildren:  Morgan (Shaughn) Shields, Alexandra, John E., Madison, Brogan, and Kenzie Adams, and Tricia McArdle, Amanda (Kyle) McArdle and Corey Buzzell; great grandchildren Mason McArdle and Isla and Laurel Shields.  He also leaves behind three sisters, Nancy (Edwin) Houtkooper, Susan Gucwa, and Janice (Michael) Lambrecht, brother-in-law Jon (Janet) Roe, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Marion, two siblings, Robert and Donna, his in-laws Ross and Ilsa Roe, brother-in-law Gene Gucwa, his niece Shealyn Thomson, and grandson Stosh Adams.

John was born in Rahway, NJ and raised in Canton. Surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins, he enjoyed his early years at Boston College High School and spent lots of time on the Cape with his family.  He went to college at Penn State where he met the love of his life, Linda (Roe) of Branchville, NJ.  They were married in November 1964 and moved to Plainville, where they raised their three children.  He worked in the construction trade, starting with his father, then moving up the ladder at Plumb House of Westborough. He started his own framing company, Shawnlee Construction of Plainville, in 1986.  Through the years he hired and mentored many employees.

John and Linda loved to travel, but one of their favorite places was Cape Cod.  They eventually bought a house and moved to Osterville.  They made many great friends and continued traveling. The two of them could often be found outside tending to their gardens. John was a member of Lions Club International and  Associated Builders and Contractors.  He always made time for his family and especially enjoyed the holidays when he could be together with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

John’s family would like to thank the staff of Laurelwood and  Beacon Hospice (especially Kim and Katie) for all the loving care they provided.

A Mass will take place on at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, at St Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
