Joseph T. Verrette, 81, of Plymouth, passed away on Monday, Feb. 24. He was the beloved husband of Wendy Larned Verrette, and the loving father of Brian Joseph Verrette of Plymouth and the late Jennifer Verrette Doumit. He was also a proud grandfather to Gavin Joseph Verrette of Ware.
Born in Haverhill on Nov. 5, 1943, Joseph was the son of the late Louis A. Verrette and Mary (McCarthy) Verrette. He grew up in Haverhill, where he attended Haverhill High School, excelling in sports as an all-star in baseball, basketball, and football. He continued his athletic pursuits at Northeastern University, where he was part of the undefeated 1963 NU football team and graduated in 1968. Joseph and his team were inducted into the Football Hall of Fame at NU in 2022.
In 1972, Joseph moved to Plymouth, where he raised his family and worked at John Hancock until his retirement. A passionate sports fan, he enjoyed watching professional sports and spent many years as an umpire for the Plymouth Little League and Babe Ruth. Joseph also loved reading and cherished time spent at home with his family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth. A service in the funeral home will follow at noon.
