The five-piece Larsen Band, which will perform at Pilgrim Memorial Park on August 7, is led by guitarist Lars Chappell. But he’s backed up by some of the best musicians on the South Shore. They’ll play a nearly all original set ranging from Americana, country, pop, to R&B/soul. Add in a few covers, impassioned vocals, searing guitar solos, a driving rhythm section, and the waterfront should be rocking.

Chappell grew up in Marshfield and came from a musical family. His dad and brother’s guitars were around in the house when he was young, and he took notice. He started taking music lessons when he was young. By 7th grade, during a school performance, Chappell took a slap bass solo that brought the house down. He was hooked.

And kids, take note: “Having music lessons early on can really make a difference,” he says.

Chappell’s guitar heroes included Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, BB King Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Duane Allman. He’s played in a variety of venues across the country, from Florida to Hawaii.

Chappell, 31, has recently released his first album, “Club Americana.” It was a gratifying experience.

“After playing other people’s music for a long time, it was nice to produce my own songs,” he says. “I got to play multiple instruments and sing sincere, heartfelt, lyrics that came from and about me. I’m really proud of it.”

Larsen will perform as part of the Project Arts free concert  series. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
