Just last year, Plymouth voters rejected a new Town of Plymouth charter proposed by a charter commission. However, this fall, recommendations for changes to the charter will be voted on by Town Meeting Representatives on Saturday, Oct. 19, and these recommendations will be presented in 11 motions, all subject to amendment. These proposals are being made (albeit not unanimously) by a Charter Review Committee, a group of Plymouth citizens who have spent over a year looking at our town charter. Charter review committees are limited by law as to the scope of changes they can make.

Even though you cannot vote directly on the proposed changes if you are not a Town Meeting member, you can become informed and let the Town Meeting members from your precinct know your thoughts about these recommendations. If you want to dig into these changes, a red-lined version of the proposed Charter is available here, or you could look at the summary of changes complied by the League of Women Voters of the Plymouth Area. That document is available here.
