This may be the closest Plymouth gets to Hollywood East, the ill-conceived 2008 project to bring a major movie studio to town. (Spoiler alert: Those epic plans by now defunct Plymouth Rock Studios cratered faster than Kevin Costner’s new $100 million flop.)

Fortunately, there was only pretend drama on Tuesday. Plymouth’s waterfront and downtown were the settings for a film crew here to shoot scenes for “At the Sea,” starring Amy Adams and directed by Kornel Mundruczo “Pieces of a Woman,” “White God”). The cast also includes Daniel Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”), Jenny Slate, and Rainn Wilson (“The Office”), but it was Adams at the center of the action in Plymouth on a day when temperatures rose to the 90s and the air was thick with moisture. It was hard to tell from afar, but the director apparently got what he needed.

“At the Sea” has been shooting around the Boston area for the past several weeks, including in Marshfield at Rexhame Beach, and at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton. Adams plays Laura, a woman who – after ruining her career and going through rehab – returns to her family’s seaside home and struggles with “adjusting to her old life,” according to the synopsis. A release date has not been set.

Massachusetts is familiar territory for Adams, who has starred in two well-known movies made in the state – “The Fighter” and “American Hustle.”

Volunteer paparazzo Michael Cohen wasn’t allowed to shoot any closeups, but he did manage enough shots to capture the flavor of Plymouth’s flirtation with Hollywood. (Scroll down to check them out.)
