I have been a Plymouth resident for over 50 years and been residing on South Street for the past 28 years. The motorcycle and car noise has become unbearable. They start from 3A going up South Street – which, by the way, is a 30-mile-an-hour stretch – [going] at least 45 miles an hour, some 50 miles an hour. The sign has been knocked down at least twice recently.

In all the years I have been here, maybe a handful of people have been stopped for speeding, [and] never for excessive loud engine noises on cars or motorcycles. There is going to be a major accident at one point. Cars coming down Mayflower Street and Stafford Street onto 3A take their lives in their hands trying to get on to South Street.

It is no longer enjoyable to sit on my front porch. Maybe a small solution for the speeding is to highlight the [speed limit] sign by attaching a slow-down sign right below the 30-mph sign. I have seen these signs in other towns that are solar powered, with the red lights going around the perimeter. That would draw attention.

If they slowed down, then possibly the noise would somewhat be at a lower decibel. I know there are a lot of respectable motorcyclists out – there my nephew is one of them. There are reasonable solutions. Our town needs to act on it.
