It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Manuel Teixeira, a retired veteran of the Plymouth Police Department, who dedicated 32 years of service to protecting and serving the community. Robert Teixeira passed away peacefully on Oct. 4 at the age of 83, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on Feb. 20, 1941, in Taunton, Robert was a beacon of commitment, honor, and integrity. After graduating from Silver Lake Regional High School and Northeastern University, he joined the Plymouth Police Department in 1972, where he quickly became known for his courage, dedication, and compassion in the line of duty. Over the course of a distinguished career, he rose through the ranks, earning the respect of colleagues and the community alike.
Throughout his 32 years of service, Robert Teixeira exemplified the true meaning of public service. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring younger officers, or volunteering in the community, he made a lasting impact on countless lives. Even in retirement, Robert Teixeira continued to give back by working for the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department for 5-plus years and spending time with family.
Robert Teixeira was a devoted husband to Rosemary and a loving father to Shawn Marie Bumpus (Husband Jason), Robert Manuel Teixeira Jr., and stepdaughter Kristina Jesus-Jones (husband Lawrence). He was a proud grandfather to Robert, Amanda, Nicholas, Tyler, and LJ, and great-grandfather to Mila and Lariah. He cherished time spent with family and friends, often sharing stories of his career, and offering wisdom to future generations. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Predeceased by his father Manuel Teixeira, mother Clara Duarte, brother Arnold Teixeira, and many close cousins, Robert’s legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion, 199 Federal Furnace Road, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
