Since launching in November 2023, the Plymouth Independent’s reach has far exceeded our expectations. In 2024, the first full year of publication, there were nearly 800,000 site visits, and about 2.2 million page views. It’s clear that many of you crave and value local news, especially after years of virtually no coverage.

But so far, only 10 percent of readers have donated to the PI. As a free nonprofit startup, we’re heavily reliant on reader funding to become sustainable and to expand. Our paid staff of three is not large enough to cover a growing town facing many complex issues and bursting with a broad range of fascinating stories. If you haven’t donated to the PI, please consider doing so. If you have given a one-time donation, perhaps you’re able to become a monthly supporter. A steady stream of revenue will allow us to better plan the path forward.

In this this short video by video journalist Christopher Harting, you’ll hear from editor Mark Pothier and board member Walter Robinson. More important, PI supporters talk about why they back its mission to foster a sense of community, hold public officials accountable, and to chronicle the people, events, issues, and organizations that make up the fabric of Plymouth. The video was shot at a recent informational event in Chiltonville known as Sundays at the Barn. Thanks to Mark Withington for inviting us to engage in a lively conversation about Plymouth’s only local news source.
