Timothy J. Ryan, of Plymouth, passed away on July 28 after a brief illness.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Mabel (Sullivan) Ryan and Ernest Ryan, both of Randolph and Plymouth. He was married to Elizabeth (Thorne) Ryan for 42 years and is survived by his brothers Michael and Dennis.
Always looking to make a difference in the world, Tim graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He found his way when he graduated from Simmons College, in 1980, with a master’s in social work.
Tim’s career was long and varied. He ran a day program for inpatients at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Boston. After training in the treatment of substance abuse at Family Counseling and Guidance Centers, Marshfield, he started his practice, Integrated Counseling Centers with his wife, Elizabeth, in 1994. This practice offered the integration of different disciplines at multiple office locations. Tim developed relationships with many local and regional companies and provided employee assistance services and consultation to them.
Tim clocked a lot of airline miles visiting his wife’s far-flung family in Australia, Asia, Hawaii, and in Europe. His sense of adventure and acceptance of people from many different cultures made him a natural world traveler.
Always happiest on the water, Tim sailed several boats over a period of 30 years. He enjoyed working on them almost as much as sailing them. There were many adventures with friends, to Stellwagen Bank, exploring the Boston Harbor Islands by day and night, as well as the Massachusetts coastline.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth, on Saturday Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
