We are in favor of a “no” vote on Article 12s at the April 5 Town Meeting.  Article 12s, were it to pass, would allow Plymouth to “opt out” of a Massachusetts state law that prohibits firearms in municipal buildings.

Massachusetts has one of the lowest rates of gun violence in the country, in part because of legislation addressing firearms and public safety.

These laws were updated in 2024 to prohibit “ghost guns,” expand red flag laws, and expand prohibited areas for firearms. Municipal buildings were added to the list of prohibited areas, joining prohibitions at universities schools, and polling locations.

Substantial research has proven that having more firearms in a community increases the incidence of gun violence.

We strongly urge a “no” vote on Article 12s.
